Keeping the kids busy is one of the perennial problems for any parent. Finding them the right hobby, especially during those summer months can make life a whole lot easier. And if you haven't thought of introducing your child to photography before, then maybe it's time you gave it a try. A cheap and brilliant way to keep the kids amused
You can buy cameras for less than £30 nowadays, which means it's a great, cost effective hobby to get your children started in. Once the snapping is done, all you need to do is connect to your pc or laptop and download the photos onto your hard drive. Get them to look at the world in a different way.
Any kind of art gets kids to look at the world in different ways. With styles like black and white photography and an unending variety subject areas they can develop their artistic skills and experiment to their hearts content. For kids that don't like drawing, photography gives them all the tools they need to stay creative.
Combine photography with outdoor pursuits
Photography isn't a static hobby. You can take it with you everywhere, on treks into the country, to the fun fair, theme park, beach, even when you visit the grandparents. You can combine it with a whole host of things and use it to keep your kid busy whilst educating them at the same time.
Print and make funky collages
Photography goes way beyond just snapping pictures. On a rainy day, the kids can print off their pictures and make funky collages of their which they can then put on their bedroom walls.
Help them to learn how to use editing software
If you want to hone their computer skills from an early age, you can get the kids to combine photography with simple image editing software and give them a head start in life.
A hobby that develops as they grow older
And, if the bug takes hold, photography isn't only a hobby for childhood, it's something for life. You might be setting your kid off on a bright career as a wildlife or landscape photographer, or even a camera man or film director. So, if you're looking for something to keep your kids busy this next holiday, invest in a cheap camera and get them snapping away. You never know, you might be helping to create the next Steven Spielberg or Annie Liebovitz.
